About this attraction

Fort William sits on Dawson's Hill in Cape Coast. Built in April 1820 by the English Governor Hope Smith on the site of a former signalling lookout post, it was originally named Smith's Tower. Before 1838 it was converted into a lighthouse and renamed Fort William. It remains an iconic landmark offering elevated views over Cape Coast town, the castle, and the Atlantic Ocean.
