About this attraction

The Black Star Square (Independence Square) is a major landmark on the edge of Accra, standing between the Atlantic Ocean and the district of Osu. One of the largest public squares in the world, it was built by Ghana's founding leader, Kwame Nkrumah, after Ghana became the first colonised African country to gain independence on 6th March, 1957.
